Famous people

Famous people
Antonio Benedetto Carpano was born in Bioglio in 1764. He is known as the inventor of "aperitivo" (i.e. the tradition of Italian people to drink a cocktail before having dinner) as he was the first producer of Vermouth – spelled Vermut in Italian – the well-known fortified and aromatic wine. If you visit Eataly store in Turin, at the 1st floor you can find the museum they dedicated to him.
Among the other famous people from Bioglio, it is remarkable the figure of the chemist Federico Savio. He was a distant relative of the Russian tsar's physician, and in the late XIX century he discovered a drug – which was spread all around Europe – to treat rickets.
Last but not least, the Maglioli brothers, known in the field of car racing: Umberto Maglioli, a Formula 1 pilot, got on the podium twice and won the Targa Florio (an Italian historic rally) three times; Claudio Maglioli, pilot and test driver for LANCIA Races Department, developed – among the others – the legendary LANCIA Stratos and Rally 037.
